Food and Breast Cancer

Style food and a proper diet can help prevent the onset of a different form of cancer, and in many cases may disadvantage the evolution of disease. Recent experimental evidence show that the reduction of the insulin levels in the blood is involved in the cases of breast cancer. The insulin, in fact, raises the levels of sex hormones androgen and IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor 1), two factors responsible for the development of breast cancer.

What to eat and what to avoid when breast cancer?

Since the release of insulin depends not only from the intake of foods with high glycemic index, such as simple sugars, but also to that of animal protein, it is important to reduce dietary intake of sweets and products made with refined flour (type 00), red meat, eggs and dairy products and saturated fats such as butter, lard, margarine and sausages.
Never carbonated beverages, sugar and sucrose that stimulate the production of insulin and can be replaced by brown sugar or integral for example mascobado or panela, or small amounts of honey or malt grain.
The ideal is to eat more whole grains and rice, sourdough bread, oatmeal and muesli without sugar, vegetables, fish, soy, rich in phytoestrogens, substances similar to female hormones are able to "occupy" the estrogen receptors that contribute to the possible development of breast cancer.
Cabbage, broccoli, cabbage and garlic, as well as citrus fruits, have a protective effect against and prevention of breast cancer and must be present in the diet.

What advice do you have to follow?

First priority must be to reduce calories foods that are filling much as unrefined cereals, legumes and vegetables, reduce foods high glycemic index or insulin (refined flour, potatoes, white rice, cornflakes, sugar and milk) and eat rather than whole grains (rice, barley, millet, oats, buckwheat), legumes ( all kinds, including traditional soy products) and vegetables.
It should also reduce the sources of saturated fats (red meats and sausages, milk and dairy products) and eat rather than extra virgin olive oil, oil seeds, milk, cereal reduce the proteins, particularly those of animal origin (except fish) and practicing daily moderate-intensity physical activity for at least 30 minutes and reduce sedentary activities of at least 30 minutes a day, increasing the response of natural killer cells.

Is it possible to prevent and treat breast cancer with a balanced diet?

Recent experimental evidence (Gullett et al.2010) have shown that intake of specific nutrients and phytocomplexes can prevent breast cancer.
Flax seeds, with the high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids, as well as cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, watercress, radish, rocket or arugula, mustard, rapeseed, cabbage in all its many varieties , turnip and radish, containing Brassinina, slow the growth of breast cancer (Thompson et al.1996).

The sulforaphane, found in broccoli, cabbage, brussels sprouts, and cauliflower stops the process of cell division and induces apoptosis in cancer cells (Tan et al 2009).

Genistein, present for example in soy beans, like other isoflavones, estrogen reduces the growth of breast cancer by estrogen activity (Theil et al 2010).

Many scientific studies turn their attention to the powerful antioxidant activity of Resveratrol present in the skins of red grapes, wine and eaten peanuts, which is a good candidate for the fight against cancer prevention in general. (KR Patel et al. 2010).
